July kit projects by Abby!

Hi BR friends! Abby here, and I'm closing out the month by sharing with you a few more of my July projects :) This July kit was sooo fab, I've used up nearly all my paper and most of the embellies! Don't you love when you can still make nice projects using mostly scraps? :)

This layout was created for the July 20th sketch challenge. There is still time to link your entries here!

I usually like to add several different patterned papers and layers, but since I was limited with what I had left in my kit, I had to keep the paper minimal. I really like how it turned out, though. Sometimes less is more :)

I also created these two... a fun birthday card and an encouragement card :)

July definitely hosted a great summer kit, but wait till you see August's Boys Rule kit! Sweet sassy molassy, it's gorgeous! I received mine yesterday and instantly fell in love... Ahhhhh ~happy sigh~
Be sure to order quickly, Laura-Lee's kits sell out super fast!

Have a great evening!

Toes in the Sand - a layout by Laura

Hi there!

Have you had a chance to play along with the sketch by our guest designer, Julie Bonner?  Well it looked like so much fun that I decided to give it a whirl.  In case you missed it, here is the sketch....
And here is my take on this fab sketch.....
As you can see, July's kit was just perfect for some pictures of my little guy playing on the beach this past winter, in Cuba.  And one of the little banner phrases makes for a perfect title.  I love how easily adaptable this sketch was to a landscape photo.  And I could add some embellies and whatnot to make it my own!

For a chance to win a prize for using this fabulous sketch, link your take back to the original post HERE. You have until July 30th to enter in the random drawing!!

Thanks for visiting Boy's Rule!

Tutorial of the Month with Laura

Hello there!

This month's kit from Boy's Rule came with Smooch's mist in it, in great red and yellow colours..  And while I have played with a couple of brands of mist, I have never used this particular brand.  That got me to thinking... maybe you haven't either... so I thought I would share a bit of a how to with you.

Some mists have glitter in them, some are more matte with no shine and this particular brand seems more metallic to me.  Which is fab for those of us that scrapbook boys a lot,  some masculine layouts don't really pull off the glittery look well.

First, I will show the different looks you can achieve simply by holding your mist bottle closer to your paper or a little farther away.  At only a couple inches away from your paper the mist concentrates it's spray saturating the area.
By pulling the mist away from the page a few more inches you achieve a more spattered look.  This holds true if you pull the mist even farther away, you will get more sparse spatter.  Though this can be a little messy, so you may want to do what I do and keep a cardboard box on hand to use as a spray booth.
I also like to use a paint brush with my mists.  Using a flicking technique gives me a little more control over where the mist actually lands on my page.  And if I am very careful I can add mist to a completed page using this technique.  Good to know when you forget to mist first!

This flicking technique give you larger spatter spots and you can control how much spatter you end up with a little better.

Smooch mists cover chipboard really well too.  Even the brown style of chipboard, which can be hard to cover.

If your chipboard has a shiny surface, you will want to give it a light sand with and emery board to remove the sheen and allow the mist to soak in and dry.

What else can you mist?  How about paper flowers, to give then a custom colour?

 You can add a little.
 Or a lot.
Smooch mist gives  a nice even coat of colour for a beautiful finished product.

I hope you enjoyed today's tutorial and give some mists a try!  If you have any questions leave us a comment and  I will be happy to help out any way I can.

Keep Cool

Hi everybody!

Dani here to share my latest LO using the July kit AND the last sketch. I was so inspired by all the amazing takes the other DTs created with that I couldn't resist. So here it is!

I couldn't help to transform the 12x12 sketch into a 8.5x11 page, which is my preferred size. I used my silhouette to create the background and the title. Some confetti and a little bit o stitching and it was all set! Here is a detailed picture of the subtitle (I used a cloud punch to create the "bite" on the Little Yellow Bicycle chipboard).

Thanks or stopping by!

Swim On - July Kit Altered Item by Laura

Hi there!

I am sharing this little altered item, created with the July Kit.

I was inspired to create this because we have been spending a lot of time at our trailer this summer playing in the lake and doing other outdoorsy sorts of things.  Since this is only our second season owning a trailer, we are still trying to personalize it.  This month's kit reminds me of all the fun we have at the trailer and the colours coordinate perfectly with the quilt in Timmy's room at the trailer, so I thought why not create a little something for the wall in his room.

I did a little spin-off on the 'Keep Calm and Carry On" phrase, trying to make it work for summertime fun.  I used the Fancy Pants plaid doily to create a little umbrella / awning type of thing at the top of the frame.

Love these little canvas tags!  And the red and white polka dot Washi tape, makes my heart skip a beat!
These alphas and chipboard embellies are so sweet.

All in all, July's Kit is amazing, if you do not already subscribe to these kits you really should.  There is a great mixture of products put together from a few different scrappy manufacturers, as well as a few fun little extras too!  Laura-Lee has a real flair for combining many elements into a great kit!!

He *loves* Cupcakes

Hi there,

Dani here with a fun page I made using my July kit and a square punch. Chevron and triangles are a huge trend now in the scrapbooking world, so I thought it would be cool to use them both in a page.

I used a square punch and some scrap of my July kit to create the triangles (just cut them in half diagonally), then I lined them up to create a chevron-like pattern. Some machine stitching and done!

Thanks for stopping by!

Surf's Up - July Kit layout by Laura

Hi there!

I have a layout to share with you created with my July Kit.  I have had these pictures of two of my sons playing on a wind sailing board,  just waiting to be scrapped, but I was kind of waiting for just the right papers.  You know how that is, right?  Well the papers in this month's kit were just right!

These papers by Fancy Pants are vibrant and fun and perfect for this summery layout.
The LYB embellies compliment and beach or water themed project.
This red and white polka dot Washi tape, makes my heart go pitter patter.
And this canvas sun is to die for , especially once misted with yellow Smooch mist.
This collection has a huge selection of journaling tags, just perfect for documenting the who's, where's and what's!!

I hope you enjoy my reveal and if you are fortunate enough to have gotten a July  Kit, that you are really loving it as much as I am.

Thanks for visiting Boys Rule.

Summer (layout by Jenny)

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!! :)

Jenny here today, and I have a bright, fun layout to share with you all!!

My photo is roughly 5x7, and it is one of my favorites from this summer...so far. :)

I used quite a few layers of foam adhesive to give my title lots of dimension, and to fit my little flag sticks under.  ;)

I have a feeling that all my pictures I scrap with this month's kit will be from us going to the lake this summer!! So, stay tuned!!

Remember, you have a week to get both sketches done for June to be entered in to win a Boys Rule RAK!!!!  Details and sketches are on the sidebar ------------------------->
