Sketch love

Hi, everyone! Dani here to show some details on the pages I did in August. I have to say I was so excited when I opened my Boys Rule kit box this month my husband asked me if it was an early birthday present, lol!

Seriously, this kit RULED! The Basic Grey papers, the carefully chosen embellishments *sigh*, pure bliss!

So, to show how much I loved the kit and the sketches this month, I decided to show you some details of my  page using the August 3rd sketch AND a peek into my page using TOMORROW's sketch! :)  I know, I know... You are welcome! lol

So I created this one using our first sketch for August. I had lots of fun with my punches on this page:

Now, for the peek! The August 31st sketch is SUPER fun, open to many interpretations. You will see the full reveal tomorrow, but here is a detail shot of my take:

I hope I got you all excited for tomorrow's post!!!

Oh, and I have to say... September's kit is looking EVEN BETTER!!! Yeah, I know... Really hard to believe. ;)

See you soon!

When in Cuba, a layout with Laura

Hi there!

It is my turn to share a project today.  I created this layout of my youngest son, with this month's kit. It seems everyone in Cuba smokes cigars, even the occasional child.  Well this got Timmy to thinking that maybe he wanted to try it, unfortunately (well it was unfortunate according to him) his mom thinks otherwise... and only let him pose with an unlit cigar for this silly photo opp.

The kit is heavily laced with Basic Grey's 'Clipping's' collection, along with so many other fun embellies.  The chipboard hexagons came in many different sizes, some being solids and some not, I had a lot of fun with them over the month.  And as I mentioned in this post  you will see me use them differently here today.

The solid hexagons got misted in two colours.
The open hexagons were misted and then lined with a variety of patterned papers.
To create my base page, I cut and pasted together pieces from many papers.  One of which had this great collage with the tab already on it.  I added a couple of more elements to it, for dimension.
I used the BG sticker sheet and the Amy Tan alphas to create my title.
 Love this film strip!
Stickers, twine, journaling... oh, my!  I am loving how this page turned out!

Thanking for popping in today!

August kit projects by Abby

Hi friends.. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! :)

I'm sharing a couple projects I've made with this great August kit :)

First up is a sweet son card made with the kit's hexagon chipboard and "Clippings" paper. This was a lot of fun, arranging the hexagons, inking the edges.. I think I'll make a few more just like it! :)

Next is a layout I created for the 2nd August sketch challenge. There is still time to enter and we have only a few entries so far.. it's a great sketch, give it a try! :)

Thanks for visiting Boys Rule today. Have a great week!

A Tutorial with Laura

Hello there!

It is the time in the month when I get to share a tutorial with you. Sometimes tutorials come easy, and sometimes I stew about them for a while, this month I had  a few ideas, but this one works great with this month's kit, so I will keep the other ideas on the back burner for a "stewing "month!

When I was growing up we were reared with 'waste not want not' as a sort of mantra.  My Mom was a genius at re-using, re-cycling and re-purposing.  Today I wanted to share with you a way to re-purpose as it relates to scrapbooking.

This month's kit came with an entire paper pack of Basic Grey's 'Clippings' collection.  It is awesome by the way!  And with paper packs come cover pages, such as this.....

Isn't it pretty?

Well, these pieces always get me thinking.... there is so much you can do with them.  I started by cutting away the advertising bits.

Then I got to work on a layout, trimming down the cover page to a size I felt I could work with.  I love that torn, decorative bit up top... don't worry about the BG logo... we can fix that.

See it is all gone, hidden under some pretty flags.
Now how does this look?  The cover page gave me a great jumping off point for my layout, with the addition of a few more scraps of paper I have a great base for my photo of my youngest son riding a bull in Cuba.

And if you remember from this post, I created hexagons to use as masks... well I kept them after I misted over them and used one here on this layout as an extra embellie and another re-purposed item.

A few embellies, journaling and a fun title and voila, I have one more completed layout and one less thing in my trash!
Next time you sit down to create a layout or card... have a look around to see what you can re-purpose.

Thanks for visiting today!

Camera Ready

Hi everyone! Dani here to share a little bit of my Camera Ready project with you. My oldest is going through that phase they can't, for the life in me, give you a genuine smile... It has always to be that forced grin accompanied by a pose *sigh*... I know this is just a phase and soon it will be a nightmare to snap a shot of him (NOT looking forward to preteen years, people!) so I grab all the opportunities I have.

With this page something funny happened, I don't like this picture that much, but I was planning to use it with 2 others were my husband and my youngest also appear next to John mimicking his pose (they are really funny), BUT when I sent my pictures to print at Costco I made a mistake and ended up with 2 copies of that shot you see on the layout above. I had a "light bulb" moment I saw the August 17th sketch! That double picture would be P-E-R-F-E-C-T to use with that sketch! And I got bonus points for documenting how funny it is to see my go through the "grin phase", lol.

I even put a reminder of my "light bulb" moment on the page! Ha!

Anyways, don't forget to also scrap those pictures you don't truly love, they are part of your story too! :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Best of the Best with Laura

Hello!

It is Laura here and it is my turn to post a project on the Boy's Rule blog, and this time I am sharing a card.

I love making cards and some of the elements in this month's Boy's Rule kit, just called out to me to create a card with them.

This 'best of the best' sticker just screamed 'friendship card' to me!
Especially when I paired it with this 'friends' tab.
I wanted to show that even though something starts it's scrappy career as a flat little sticker, by adding a mat and some pop dots, then layering it with some die cuts it can turn into a beautiful layered and dimensional focal point for your project.

Can you tell I am still so in love with this kit.... I could easily create with it forever! lol !   Boy's Rule kits, are the best, they have really cool elements and everything is hand picked to coordinate and inspire.

Thanks for visiting today!

I think we have all the paper lines pre-ordered for the next several months ...wow what a job...the dt helped lots with paper lines...gosh I can't wait for it all to arrive to see it all in person!
I'm sure you have your eye on lots of yummy stuff from CHA, I know I do....and we will be assembling some incredible kits with really fun stuff for you in the next several months....

So back to the August kit, which I am very much enjoying, this paper rocks!  So versatile, amazing paper crafting kit...

So what did you do with your film strip??
Your August kit includes 5 feet of authentic film strip...pretty cool stuff...
I made a banner with some of it and stapled it on to my layout...actually, looking at my layout I realized I forgot to include my journalling!  ooopsy...

I also used film strip along the bottom ...it adds wonderful texture to your page :)

My 4 Men by Laura

Hi all!

It's Laura here and I have a layout to share today using the August kit.  This month's kit is fabulous! The kit is based around a Basic Grey paper pack called 'Clippings'.  It is a wonderful collection and Laura-Lee has paired it with some fabulous embellishments.  I had so much fun with this kit, I didn't stop creating with it until I completed 5 layouts and a card!  Honestly, I could do more with the leftovers but ... you know kids, quality time.... blah, blah, blah!  LOL  Just kidding folks.... I love to go play with them, it gives me more opportunities to take photos!  To scrap more!

Today I am sharing the following layout.....

You will notice the kit contains some chipboard hexagons, I wanted to use them 2 ways this month.  First off, for this layout, I traced the larger hexagon onto scrap cardstock and cut out about 6 of them.  Then I used the pieces as a mask to mist the base of this layout.  (You will see the second way I used these pieces later on this month.)

There were 3 great neutral colours of baker's twine in the kit.... I love baker's twine!  I used some of the black to stitch underlines for my title.
One of my favourite parts of the kit is a very long piece of film strip.  I cut some of it into banners - because I love banners, too!
More fun stuff - coat check tickets!
These camera die cuts are awesome!

Can you tell I love this kit!  Boy's Rule kits, are the best, they have really cool elements and everything is hand picked to coordinate and inspire.  So perfect for when you feel like being creative... just grab the kit and you are all set!

Thanks for visiting today!  I hope you are enjoying your kit as much as I am!  I am really looking forward to seeing what you create with it!

Who wants some Smore's?

Hey everyone!

Dani here to share one of my favourite pages done with this month's kit. To tell you the truth, I'm completely, madly, in LOVE with August's kit. It's simply AWESOME!!!

This Basic Grey Clipping's line is so versatile and cool, that I was able to pull out a Fall page out of it! I've used a leaf punch and pop dots to create the layers, Basic Grey's stickers or the title and DONE!

As you may already know, my family and I are from Brazil. We moved to Canada 4 years ago, and I have to tell you, we don't have smore's there!! Shock!!! I know, I know, how could we live in a world without this chocolate/marshmallow/cracker goodness? I have to confess, I keep asking mysel that same question since that afternoon in those pictures... :)

Now, back to business. My favourite part about using a kit to scrapbook is that everything coordinates, and it has all been picked for you! My life is SO busy with my demanding job and my even more demanding boys that every minute I can save to be crafty and creative counts. Don't you think?

So... Thanks for stopping by! I hope you all enjoy the kit!!!

August kit layout by Abby!

Hi Boys Rule friends! Happy Monday!

Abby here, sharing a layout I created with the August kit. I know I say it every month, but it's true.. this is an awesome kit! Love love love!!

City Stroll

I usually add many more embellishments to my pages, but I just love these photos and I really wanted them to be the focus.. so I went with simple for this layout. Although, I couldn't finish it without first adding lots of doodles :)

Have a fabulous week!!

7 yrs - August kit layout by Jenny

Hi everyone! :)

I have a layout to share with you today...

It is another one featuring my super-handsome son, Daniel, from his 7 year old photo session.

I have never been a huge fan of those pre-designed patterned papers. They all seem too "flat" for me (I love my foam adhesive, lol). Well, I actually really liked this paper, but again, too flat. So, I got out my scissors and went to cutting!! I used the polaroid picture frame, the torn ledger, and the journal bit on this layout. I kept them in their same places, but added in some other layers as well.

I popped up the photo, and of course, added more triangles! ;)

The journal bit had an "A" on it, but since this was a 7 year old photo, i used my hole punch, and punched a "7" from the collection pack front cover. :)
